Unapologetically pro-abortion

We have a long history of working from college campuses all the way to the state Capitol and beyond to protect access to reproductive rights across the state! We believe anyone who wants or needs an abortion should be able to get one – for any reason, in an affordable and timely manner, without guilt or shame, and no matter who they are or where they’re from. We’re fighting for a world where abortion is universally accessible and acceptable.
The Brazen Project
Young people overwhelmingly support access to reproductive health care, which includes protecting the right to abortion care and expanding access to everyone who needs it! In 2016, New Era began an initiative called the Brazen Project that eventually grew to three major universities across Colorado. The Brazen Project was a student-led initiative aimed at breaking the stigma around having conversations about abortion on college campuses. Over several years organizing on college campuses, we grew a strong base of reproductive rights advocates and eventually launched a campaign aimed at holding anti-abortion centers accountable for their deceptive practices on college campuses.

Anti-abortion centers – also known as “fake clinics,” “crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs),” and “anti-abortion counseling centers (AACCs)” – are anti-abortion nonprofits that present themselves as licensed family planning and/or reproductive health care clinics. In reality, these centers exist to dissuade pregnant people from seeking an abortion. They use deceptive advertising to get folks looking for abortion services in the door, then proceed to provide patients with biased counseling and inaccurate, unfounded information about abortion and contraception to delay and make it even more difficult to schedule an abortion.
We eventually worked with student government at each of our campuses (Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado Boulder, and Colorado State University Fort Collins) to introduce and pass resolutions that denounced the presence of anti-abortion centers on their campuses with the purpose of protecting the integrity of the health care information that students receive on campus.
As New Era has moved into a multi-issue organizing and powerbuilding model, we no longer have the Brazen Project as a separate initiative of the organization, but instead as an ongoing reminder of the power of grassroots organizing. We’ve now incorporated the bold and without shame mantra of the Brazen Project into our reproductive rights work at large at New Era.
Protecting Abortion Statewide
The work that began through the Brazen Project grew into a larger priority at New Era to protect abortion rights at the ballot box and continue the work we started with anti-abortion centers by bringing the issue to the state Capitol. Here’s an overview of all the work we’ve done over the last couple of years to protect our bodily autonomy and right to safe and accurate medical information (Siri, play music for nostalgic reminiscing).
