In the Hot Seat: a Hot Ones Mayoral Forum

April 18, 2023

Thanks to everyone who came to “In the Hot Seat: A Hot Ones Mayoral Forum!” ICYMI: Check out Kelly Brough and Mike Johnston’s answers to our *spicy* questions here. You can also watch the full forum livestream or listen to City Cast Denver’s audio recording of the event.

Welcome to the Hot Seat.

The April Denver municipal election left two candidates vying for the position of mayor, which will be decided in a June 6 runoff election.

Now, it’s time for them to sit in the hot seat. Just like on the YouTube series “Hot Ones,” we’ll serve increasingly spicy Fire on the Mountain wings while the candidates answer equally spicy questions on the issues that impact Denver voters the most. Expect sweaty faces and hard-hitting questions.

JUICCY Misdemeanor, known for both her drag and her activism with Black PRIDE Colorado, will host the program and serve a drag performance, as well! Bree Davies with City Cast Denver will moderate the event, and the City Cast team is recording the forum for their listeners.

What to Expect

Hosted by New Era Colorado and our friends at Cobalt, COLOR, and ONE Colorado, the forum will focus on our communities’ top issues:

  • HOUSING AND AFFORDABILITY: Making it possible for young people, people of color, and our families to stay in Denver and live where our lives are;
  • LATINX EQUITY AND OPPORTUNITY: Building possibilities for Latinx individuals and our families to lead safe, healthy and self-determined lives;
  • LGBTQ+ RIGHTS AND EQUALITY: Advancing and protecting equity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Denverites;
  • REPRODUCTIVE CARE AND ACCESS: Protecting Denver as a safe place to access healthcare by expanding access to reproductive care and the resources we need to create and support our families in the city that we love.

There will be time before and after the forum for mingling, during which time there will be a cash bar in the space as well as a food truck outside. The event will be livestreamed and will offer ASL interpretation, Spanish language translation, and physical accessibility.
