DENVER, CO—Today, New Era Colorado Action Fund announced its endorsement of candidates running in the June 30 primary election. The organization endorsed Julie Gonzales for U.S. Senate, Melat Kiros for Congressional District 1, Chela Garcia Irlando for SD 34, Neal Walia for HD 9, Chauncy Johnson for HD 17, and Kenny Nguyen for HD 33.

New Era Colorado Action Fund is seeking to win primary and general election seats at the state and federal level to improve the chances of passing priority legislation by electing Youth Agenda champions who are fully committed to the Youth Agenda and co-governing with young people.

”Now more than ever, young people are demanding to see progress on the issues that are impacting their lives every day, from the rising costs of living, to access to healthcare, to protections from the ongoing attacks of the federal administration. These endorsed Youth Agenda Champions have demonstrated a strong commitment to young people and represent our communities that have long been shut out of the halls of power. We are so excited to build a Colorado that truly represents the values of young people alongside these badass candidates.” – Christina Soliz, Executive Director, New Era Colorado Action Fund

The New Era Colorado Action Fund Small Donor Committee will use our people-powered contributions to directly support our endorsed Champions. The Young People, For All People Independent Expenditure Committee and our brand new federal PAC, Young People for a New Era, will mobilize young voters to elect the Youth Agenda Champions in the June 30 state primary election. Young voters account for 30 percent to 45 percent of the vote share in these districts and will be critical to winning these races.

“Young people in Colorado are tuned in and fired up heading into the midterm elections, but do-nothing Democrats aren’t keeping up with the progressive energy in our state. Inaction in the face of authoritarianism is unacceptable and voters across our state are eager to work with elected officials that actually show up for young people and people of color year after year, not just at election time. That’s why New Era Colorado Action Fund’s endorsement means so much to me — because they don’t leave anyone behind. They build power in communities across Colorado and bring voters and elected officials together to co-govern and win on big issues.” – Julie Gonzales, candidate for U.S. Senate

For 20 years, New Era has been turning out young people in record numbers — and this June, we are proud to give them something worth showing up for. These champions know there is no more tolerance for politics as usual. Colorado’s budget is flat broke — things like healthcare and education are severely underfunded, which is leaving young people in the dust. All of this is compounded by a federal government that continues to attack our communities and strip away our freedoms. This midterm, we need champions who will do everything in their power to protect Coloradans for generations to come.
