CHUMP: US Rep. Gabe Evans

This month’s chump shouldn’t be a surprise since he, along with Republican Representatives Jeff Hurd, Jeff Crank, and Lauren Boebert, voted yes on the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (a.k.a. the One Big, Ugly, Nasty Bill). Evans voted for roughly $3 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy, and about $1 trillion in spending cuts on programs like Medicaid and food stamps. He is hurting his own people: An estimated 30,000 people will lose access to health care in his district and even more will lose access to food programs.
Evans’ office says Coloradans won’t be negatively impacted (and that in fact, they’ll benefit), but the math isn’t mathing 🤨 These historic cuts are going to overwhelmingly hurt low-income households in Colorado’s 8th Congressional District (CD8), where a quarter of households made under $50,000 in 2023.
I guess we’ll add Evans to the list of reasons Colorado needs to reform TABOR (Colorado’s obsolete tax system) so we can defend ourselves from the harmful decisions being made at the federal level…
CHAMP: Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser

At a time where federal budget cuts and a flurry of executive orders are creating uncertainty and fear in our Colorado communities, Attorney General Phil Weiser has joined more than 30 lawsuits on behalf of Colorado against Trump administration attacks.
Weiser is taking to the courts to block Trump’s demand for personal information about people enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), protect federal election systems (think: our vote-by-mail system that voters on both sides of the aisle support!), and protect people’s access to Planned Parenthood services, regardless of their insurance.
Weiser’s office also filed a lawsuit against a Mesa County sheriff’s deputy whose decision last month to share information with federal immigration officials led to the arrest of a 19-year-old college student from Utah. This is the first lawsuit under a Colorado law that we helped pass in the spring that bans state and local law enforcement from asking people about their immigration status.
So while politics this summer has felt like a flaming pile of garbage, we can count on leaders like AG Weiser who are fighting to protect Coloradans at the courts.
We’re taking bold action to hold our elected leaders accountable, and we need your support to continue this work! If you want us to keep naming names in our Champs vs. Chumps campaign, give $5 today to keep it running.
